Run at the First Sign You've Been Imprinted

*What are your thoughts on imprinting? In a variety of stories from the history of literature love spells have been used to bind a couple: Tristan and Isolde, Midsummer Night's Dream...often with disastrous and painful results. How do we define imprinting? Do we believe it is truly love or merely the work of a force so strong one can't deny it? *

I don't believe imprinting is love at first sight. Using Quil and Claire, Jacob and Renesmee as our study subjects, the baby girls in question are definitely not falling in love with these young men. SuperBaby attributes aside, these girls don't understand what's going on. Free will has been tossed out the window and somebody is going to get hurt. I understand that the imprintee/imprinter serves in whatever capacity the other needs at that particular time. But this open ended arrangement could lead to disastrous, heartbreaking results. For instance: "Hey Jake. You've been a great man-nanny. I'm off to see the world now. Alone. Toodles..." Then Renesmee comes home with a Count she met in Prague. Not to worry. Jake becomes the couple's man servant. Ay! Just Say No to Imprinting.

Hi Cuicken!

Yeah - I got overdramatic with my manny example. How horrible would that be? I'm still unsure about love spells and binding potions and all that kind of stuff. Leah and Sam seemed to have a good thing going until Sam imprinted on Emily. Even though that bond is unbreakable (with Sam mauling Emily and all!), it sure did leave Leah in the dust angry and bitter. Who knows? Maybe if Leah's story continues, she'll find an antidote or counter spell to imprinting and then the paired-off people will be faced with a choice. Is this my soul mate or not? Hmmm...

Imprinting is just a nifty literary device, and that's it. I think it's cool, similar to how I think the love juice in "Midsummer" makes for seriously phenomenal entertainment! When acted right, the scene where Lysander and Demetrius try to win Helena's affections with both her and Hermia flipping out at each other is unbelievably hysterical. The idea of imprinting, the way Mrs. M. has done it, is not hysterical, but it's fascinating. Without a doubt, if and when Leah's story if developed, she will find her soul mate. And even though I hated her at first (which I know is mean because she was just hurting and in emotional pain), I don't know. So I hope she IS given her soul mate. Mrs. M. seems to like happy endings, after all!

Oh, and Jake and Nessie...It binds the vampires and the werewolves together, and I really like that a lot. So I'm good with that!

imprinting

Postby Audralice on Tue Jul 07, 2009 8:05 am

I think that imprinting is fine... in certain situations. Like Paul and Jacob's sister. That's fine they are around the same age. As for Jacob and Renesmee, i think, if he had to imprint on her, he could've waited till she was like 16, 17,18, 19 something like that. He would've stayed the same as she grew up, then when she is at least at a point when she knows why she likes him that would be when to imprint....although its uncontrollable.
