Imprinting

*What are your thoughts on imprinting? In a variety of stories from the history of literature love spells have been used to bind a couple: Tristan and Isolde, Midsummer Night's Dream...often with disastrous and painful results. How do we define imprinting? Do we believe it is truly love or merely the work of a force so strong one can't deny it? *

Chemical reaction, pheromones, love-at-first-sight; are these the same as imprinting? It seems to take away the free will of the imprintee, unless it always happens mutually, which is not discussed in the books.
